Genre

Genre- a particular kind, class, or style, especially of work in literature or art

Short story - a fictional prose narrative that is about five to twenty book pages long. 

Novel - a long fictional story that is usually more than one hundred book pages in length.

Drama - a story written to be acted in front of an audience.

Poetry - a kind of rhythmic, compressed language that uses figures of speech and imagery to appeal to emotion and imagination.

Nonfiction - prose writing that deals with real people,events, and places without changing any facts.

Subgenres

Autobiography - the story of a person's life, written or told by that person.

Biography - the story of a real person's life written or told by another person.

Epic - pertaining to a long poetic compostion, usually centered upon a hero.

Fable - a very brief story in prose or verse that teaches a moral, a pratical lesson about how to succeed in life.

Folk Tale - a story with no known author, originally passed on from one generation to another by word of mouth.

Mystery - a book, play, motion picture, or like involving a puzzling crime, with a plot that gradually leads to the discovery of the criminal.

Myth - a story that usually explains something about the world and invloves gods and superheroes.
